GTAP conference in Kyoto, Japan

From 22.06. to 24.06.2026, Mamadou represented our department at the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Conference in Kyoto, Japan. He presented his working paper "From Mines to Meals: Assessing the Food Security Impacts of Phosphate Rock Scarcity in a Global CGE Model," which investigates how the depletion of phosphate rock, a key input for fertilizer production, could affect global food security. During the conference, he exchanged ideas with researchers and policy modellers from around the world and received valuable feedback on refining the model's scenario design and analytical approach.

StEPPFoS Workshop

Emmanuel conducted a 2-day workshop on May 20–21, 2026 in Mombasa, Kenya to facilitate collaborative dialogue and expert engagement in developing future scenarios for Kenya’s agri-food systems, with a focus on sustainability, resilience, trade, and food security. This was under the StEPPFoS project under a AU-EU partnership.

The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) visit

On May 2026, in the framework of the Steppfos project Dorothee is part of a delegation that visits KIPPRA to discuss various topics related to the organisation’s research activities.

Capacity building of local stakeholders in Ghana

On March 2026, Dorothee Flaig had the pleasure to discuss research findings and to continue capacity building of local stakeholders in Ghana. The engagement was part of our project with UNFCCC and Ghana EPA to assess the implications of climate response measures – a project that aims to directly feed research into policy making.

Water Security and Climate Change Conference

On October 2025, in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Simon Ehjeij presented his CGE modelling results on irrigation expansion in Ethiopia at the Water Security and Climate Change Conference in Uzbekistan. The interdisciplinary conference brings together researchers from the natural, agricultural, engineering, data, and social sciences to address water security and its links to climate change.

GTAP Short Course at Purdue University

From 02.06. to 08.08.2025, Mamadou Jallow participated in the GTAP Short Course on the Theory and Applications of Computable General Equilibrium Analysis with the GTAP Model, organised by the Centre for Global Trade Analysis at Purdue University, USA. The training combined an online learning phase with an intensive on-site programme at Purdue University from 04.08. to 08.08.2025. He gained practical and theoretical knowledge of the GTAP model and database, covering Computable General equilibrium (CGE) modelling, international trade, production and consumption behaviour, market equilibrium, and the analysis of economic and trade policies, with hands-on exercises in RunGTAP and GEMPACK for designing scenarios and interpreting simulation results. The course strengthened his expertise in quantitative economic modelling, with direct relevance to his research on agricultural markets, resource scarcity, food security, and international trade.

Company visit at BASF

On 21.01.2025, our department was invited by our partners at BASF to visit their global headquarters of the company’s Agricultural Solutions division. We were presented the step-by-step process of developing plant protection products, from the laboratory, through greenhouses, all the way to test fields. Afterwards, we visited the company's visitor center and took a factory tour of the Ludwigshafen site, the largest of its kind in the world. During the excursion, we gained many new insights into the company and were able to discuss a variety of current topics related to global nutrition and food security.

GTAP Research Fellow for the period 2024-2027

The Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) holds an annual conference, this year the 27th Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis "Enhancing Global Food System Sustainability" was held in Fort Collins, Colorado, US from 5 to 7 June.

At this meeting, Dr Kirsten Boysen-Urban was appointed as a GTAP Research Fellow for the period 2024-2027. The GTAP Network awards the GTAP Research Fellow distinction to individuals for a 3-year term in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of GTAP.
