Since 2018 Dorothee Flaig is research associate at the chair of International Agricultural Trade and Food Security (490b), University of Hohenheim (Germany) where she is teaching on master and bachelor level and conducting independent research. Her research is currently concentrated in climate related policies and sustainable agricultural production where she applies CGE models to analyse trade-offs between different SDGs, focussing on economic implications and effects on food security in a globally connected world. A second focus of research lies on food security and migration with emphasis on Africa. Key competences are single country and global CGE models.

Dorothee Flaig studied Economics at the University of Hohenheim (Germany) specialising in Agricultural economics and received a Doctoral degree from the agricultural faculty of the University of Hohenheim. During her doctoral studies she specialised in single country CGE modelling, the topic of her doctoral research was factor mobility in Palestine and Israel. Her studies succeeded a 5-year employment at the OECD in Paris (France) where Dorothee was developing a global CGE model on trade and its related database based on GTAP and OECD sources. The work at the OECD focussed around the analysis of trade restrictions, i.e., trade agreements, non-tariff measures, and Global Value Chains.

Application and further development of tool kit to assess the impacts of implementation of response measures for Maldives

Project duration: 2022 - 2024

The project, funded by UNFCCC in the framework of the Katowice Committee of Experts, develops and applies a toolkit of modelling tools to assess the impacts of the implementation of response measures with recursive dynamic pathways, country level emissions and several SDG indicators, and provides capacity building. The results illustrate the insights CGE analyses can provide for Small Island Developing States such as the Maldives.

Enhance the modelling of inter-regional migration in the DEMETRA model

Project duration: 2022 - 2023

Internal migration flows, rural-rural and rural-urban, in most African countries far exceed international movements. Nevertheless, the focus in migration studies in Africa lies on international migration. The project funded by EU-JRC develops a migration module that depicts internal migration flows in an empirically based framework for the single country CGE model DEMETRA. The migration module is implemented for a model for Ethiopia
